IELTS Academic, Writing Task 2, 8 August 2020, INDIA
Q. Robots are being employed/deployed/used in additional and more fields now. Some people think that they're important for our progress while others insist that they're dangerous. In my opinion, robots are beneficial to mankind.
There is no denying the very fact that robots have had a positive impact on society since their introduction. They're capable of doing many things that individuals cannot do. For instance, robots can provide service in extreme atmospheric conditions or dangerous circumstances. They will be deployed to perform rescue operations in places hit by natural calamities like earthquakes. They're ready to perform mundane tasks without becoming bored and with utmost precision. They will even babysit and perform household chores. Another use of robots is in stores. Obviously, there are many benefits to using robots.
Some people, however, argue that robots may be dangerous. It's impossible to claim that these fears are totally baseless. In the future, as robotic technology develops, we'll probably have robots that may think and sense. Such robots, in my opinion, will likely be harmful to the masses. However, I also observe that researcher will stop before we reach that stage. Another argument against robots is that they'll lead to unemployment. Of course, if robots replace humans in each and every field, unemployment will be a prominent issue. On the flip side, humans will still be needed to construct, operate, and maintain all those robots. That means, if robots create unemployment in one sector, they are probably creating employment opportunities in other sectors.
Taking everything into consideration, I have come to the conclusion that we cannot halt the assembly or deployment of robots because the advantages of using robots outweigh the disadvantages if any.
