Q.  Some people believe that the best way to improve road safety is to increase the minimum driving age. To what extent do you agree or disagree with the given statement?

Some people believe that raising the minimum age to drive cars or motorcycles is the best way to improve road safety. While I admit that this policy can be useful to some extent, in my opinion there are better ways to reduce the number of road accidents.

It may be a good idea to increase the minimum driving age for some reasons. Firstly, youngster are less mature and less responsible. They may not realize the importance of adhering to traffic rules. Therefore, it makes sense to prohibit them from driving so that they do not break the law and cause accidents. Secondly, because older people are more experienced, they know how to react quickly to dangerous situations on the road. For instance, if the brakes of a car suddenly stop working, a young driver may panic and an accident may occur. An experienced driver will be able to cope with the situation more maturely.

However, I would argue that there are much better ways to ensure the road safety. The first is to improve the quality of our roads. Wider roads without bumps are less likely to crash. Stricter punishment for unwary drivers is also important. For example, people who violate traffic rules should be required to pay huge fines or be banned from driving permanently. Strict laws will encourage drivers to comply with the law, and the number of road accidents will decrease. Another solution is to encourage people to use public transport rather than private transport. This can be done by reducing the fares and increasing the frequency of buses and subways to make it more convenient for users.

In conclusion, I believe that raising the legal age for driving is not the best solution for improving road safety. This may help, but we need to take other measures as well. To illustrate, building better roads and making public transport more efficient will bring better results.
