Q. Nuclear energy is a better choice for meeting increasing demand. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The contemporary era is an era of technology. Advancements in nuclear processing have given us a cheap source of energy, but at the same time, nuclear energy can be used against humans. There are several advantages to using nuclear energy, such as very low CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) emissions, high energy intensity and low costs to the consumer when compared to other energy sources. On the other hand, nuclear power has serious disadvantages, for example, the threat of nuclear war, catastrophic power plant failures and the lack of proper technology for degradation of radioactive waste.

To begin with, nuclear energy is one of the cleanest in terms of carbon dioxide production, and for decades it has supplanted traditional fossil fuel energy, which is currently responsible for the greenhouse effect. Furthermore, nuclear raw materials contain much more joules per kilogram of fuel than energy sources such as hydrogen, shale gas, or oil. In addition, the aspects mentioned earlier make nuclear power one of the cheapest alternatives to the nation's energy politics due to the fact that raw materials are widely abundant and accessible.

Second, over the past decade, the public has become very concerned about the serious shortcomings of nuclear power, especially the growing nuclear stockpiles in the Middle East, since they can be used to produce nuclear weapons and can provoke a nuclear war. Another disadvantage is the increase in the amount of nuclear waste coming from nuclear power plants. Due to the fact that it is very expensive, and in some cases even impossible to decompose radioactive waste, most countries have decided to simply collect and store it for an unknown period of time in underground warehouses. Although several scientific groups have been working on sustainable recycling technology for decades, there has been little progress. In my opinion, the biggest threat to society is probably the failure of nuclear power plants, which can lead to catastrophic consequences for both the environment and humans.

In conclusion, I disagree that the advantages of nuclear technology far outweigh the disadvantages. I think that significant advances in nuclear processing technology are needed for the safe use of nuclear energy.
