Q. Nowadays some older people choose to live in retirement communities with other people, rather than living with their adult children. Is it a positive or negative development?

Today, the populations of many countries, such as Japan, are aging rapidly. The question of where older people spend their retirement life is of great importance not only for them, but for the whole society. Some people choose to live in a nursing home rather than their own home, and I think this is a positive trend.

As people get older, they become more prone to a range of medical problems, such as heart disease or cancer. If they develop these chronic conditions, they need to take medication, have frequent medical examinations, and receive special treatment. While these essentials have become an important part of the lives of many older people, they pose a challenge for many because health care takes a lot of energy and time. If seniors choose to live in nursing homes, they will be taken care of by health professionals to improve their health significantly.

In addition to receiving proper physical care during the twilight years, moving to nursing homes is also beneficial for seniors citizens to maintain social bonds. As people age, situations may arise in which they feel lonely and depressed. Retirement communities prioritize social performance, which allows them to stay active as they age. By attending exercise classes, music events, and special programs, residents can find peers with whom they share common interests and make friends with them. An employment calendar increases social activity and provides retirees with entertaining opportunities to socialize.

In conclusion, I would like to say that, thanks to the professional care services and social obligations offered by nursing homes, living in these institutions can be seen as a positive change, as it makes retirement life more enjoyable.
