Q. It is the responsibility of the government to take care of health of citizens or citizens should take care of their own health. Give your own opinion?

Everyone wants better health. It is argued that who is responsible for the health of the population is either the government or the people. In my opinion, both the government and the public are responsible for the well-being of society. While the sedentary lifestyle of the population leads to unhealthy diets, low taxes imposed by states on unhealthy foods and sodas encourage their consumption. This essay will discuss the responsibility for the health of the masses.

To commence with, in the contemporary era, a sedentary lifestyle has taken its place. Now people, because of laziness, prefer to eat on the street, rather than cook at home. As a result, a large amount of foods high in gluten are consumed, contributing to obesity and other problems. For instance, a study conducted by the University of Cambridge in United Kingdom shows that people who prefer junk food are more likely to be obese than those who prefer home-cooked food. Thus, the habit of eating unhealthy food leads to a deterioration in a person's well-being.

However, the government plays a role in public welfare. Because the authorities do not levy significant taxes on carbonate drinks and packaged meals, making them easily accessible to the public. Thus, nutrient-poor foods are promoted indirectly. For example, a survey conducted by the University of Oxford in the England shows that people choose cheap carbonate drinks over expensive ones. Consequently, the government must impose heavy tariffs on kitchens, which are detrimental to the public welfare.

In conclusion, both the states and the citizens have responsibilities towards a healthy nation. The public should opt for home-cooked food and the authorities should impose higher tariffs on carbonated drinks and junk food.
