Q. In some cities, there are few controls over the design and construction of new homes and office buildings, so people can build in whatever style they like. Do you think that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

In some cities around the world, there are no guidelines or regulations on the design of buildings, and builders can choose any style they like. Undoubtedly, there are advantages as well as drawbacks to such loose city design legislations. In my view, the demerits are more considerable than the merits.

To begin with, it is undemocratic to restrict homeowners and businesses to a limited building style. People like to use different opportunities to express their opinions, and architecture is an art form that can be used to express ideas through forms and structures. Therefore, not allowing citizens to build their homes and offices the way they want can sabotage freedom. For instance, Singapore is a modern city filled with masterpieces of famous architects. If the Singaporean government had restrictive laws on home and office design, Singapore wouldn't be a visually outstanding city to visit.

However, the lack of building design rules can lead to problematic situations. Firstly, cities that do not have a properly implemented plan lack visual aesthetics, so they may look chaotic in the near future. The Indian capital, Delhi, is a prime example. This metropolis has expanded significantly over the past few years, with developments popping up almost like mushrooms. If you look at the whole city from a great height, it opens up a completely unpleasant view of a crowded city. Secondly, there are practical and legal considerations that need to be taken into account when approving a building design. The type of access to neighboring buildings, the height of a structure compared to other buildings surrounding it, and precautions are examples of these issues. Thus, the lack of comprehensive rules on this issue may be disadvantageous.

To conclude, the number of buildings around the world is growing, and many cities do not follow the design of these buildings. I support the idea that this can do more demerits than merits, on the grounds that regulated development not only provides a harmonious view of the city, but is also vital for the safety of citizens.

Q. Only tourists visit museums and historical places. Why not local people. What can be done to attract local people to visit those places and give relevant examples as per your experience?

It is true that historical sites and museums attract large numbers of tourists; however, the locals show little interest in them. In my opinion, there are several reasons for this trend and governments can take certain steps to encourage locals to visit.

To inaugurate with, People are bored to visit such places. In other words, they are already familiar with their history and culture and may not be able to discover anything new by repeatedly visiting the same museum; therefore, they avoid visiting these places, considering such visits a waste of time. The tourist, on the other hand, tends to explore new attractions in their destinations, and museums and historical sites will help them better understand the history and culture of the countries they visit. Another reason is that museums charge entrance fees, which can be a major deterrent to locals. If a person has visited it once, he will not visit it again, because no one wants to pay to see the same works of art again.

The governments can take steps to encourage locals to visit museums and historic buildings. Firstly, the authorities can organize cultural events and regular exhibitions in these places, so that every time they visit, people get a new experience. The second solution would be to offer free tickets and discounts on weekends so that low- and middle-income families can visit. For instance, schools can give assignments related to the history of the country, and this will motivate parents to take their children to history museums to collect useful information, which will greatly enhance their academic performance.

In conclusion, locals do not like to visit museums or historical sites because there is little they can learn from those places. Foreigners, on the other hand, are curious to know more and more about their destinations, and therefore they make sure to visit these places. The government can encourage more locals by running interesting programs such as exhibits at these locations and offering free or subsidized entry.
