Q. Some people believe that the government should take care of old people and provide financial support after they retire. Others say people should save during their working years to finance their retirement. What is your opinion? Justify your answer and include examples from your own experience?

The aging population has given rise to growing concerns about the sustainability of pensions and their future. It is argued whether governments should help senior citizens or not. Though I believe that saving money for retirement is the responsibility of all of us, but I also firmly believe that the elderly should get support from the state.

There are several reasons why the provision that older people should receive government support. First, the labor market is becoming increasingly competitive. For example, there are hundreds of applications for one position in the company; which leads to competition between the elders and the youth. In many cases, these young people tend to be well-prepared for positions with relevant academic qualifications, which provides fewer job opportunities for the older generation, making it difficult to pay for housing and meals. After all, older people are fragile and have no physical capacity to work; thus it could be hazardous to their health, especially in certain labor jobs, such as restaurants.

Moreover, some senior citizens may need extra help with basic life tasks such as cooking, cleaning and shopping, but many senior citizens are left without the care of their children. This is due to the modern social system in which many workers are often forced to pursue only their careers. Thus, one of the roles of the government is to take care of the old and physically vulnerable members of society, because when they were young and healthy, they were engaged in the development of society and paid high taxes. As a result, elderly patients require special care from the country.

To conclude, I believe that the authorities should favor their society, especially the older group of people due to their physical disabilities and lack of employment opportunities according to their strengths and abilities.
