Q. Employers should focus on personality over qualifications and experience when choosing someone for a work. To what extent do you agree or disagree ?

Hiring the right candidate is always a concern for employers. Many of them prioritize individual qualities over experience when choosing the most suitable person for the job. I strongly disagree with this selection process, because many jobs require skills and experience, but not personal qualities. The following essay will elaborate on my point of view.

In this contemporary era, there are various types of jobs which cannot be performed without having the proper skill set. Professional jobs like accountant, software developer or registered nurse etc. require a lot of training in order to be eligible for this role. These necessary skills may not be sufficiently learned from their personal life experiences. In fact, building qualifications takes years of study or, perhaps sometimes, a substantial amount of real-time work experience is required. To illustrate, a computer engineer may be a good team player, but without prior knowledge of programming skills, he/she may not be a perfect fit for that role.

Furthermore, professionals such as a surgeon or another physician require years of training to properly diagnose the patient's body as well as find an effective method of treatment. If these professionals do not meet certain requirements for their respective roles, the consequences can be fatal. Moreover, any individual quality that a person applying for a particular position “should have” will be acquired by him already in the process of preparing for employment. Therefore, choosing someone to fill a job based on their own characteristics, rather than the prerequisites for the position, can be a major mistake that can lead to serious problems.

To conclude, I strongly disagree with the process of selecting a candidate based on their personal qualities rather than looking for qualifications and expertise because at the end of the day, it is their professional knowledge that works but not their qualities.
