Q. Studies show that many criminals have a low level of education. For this reason, people believe that the best way to reduce crime is to educate people in prison so they can get a job when leave prison. Do you agree or disagree?
Many studies have shown that most of the criminals are illiterate. Keeping this matter into consideration, some people believe that prisoners should be educated in prison facilities in order to prepare them for employment after release, as well as to reduce the crime rate in the country. I certainly agree with this point of view.
Moreover, education can redirect their thought process. Feelings of anger, injustice and revenge will subside when the condemned person looks forward to the opportunities that await him. This may eventually reduce their propensity to crime and ultimately lower their crime rate. Criminal tendencies are almost always the result of deprivation. When everyone has the opportunity to succeed in life, few people want to break the law.
In conclusion, it can be said that lack of education/lack of access to education is one of the main causes of criminal activity. If ex-convicts fail to reintegrate into society, they are more likely to commit crimes again and again. To prevent this from happening, I strongly believe that prisoners should be given the opportunity to study within the confines of the prison, as this can lead them to a better socio-economic life, as well as reduce the crime rate in the country.
