Q. Experts say older people were happier and healthier in the past because they did more excercise and spend more time with their family and friends whereas now many suffer loneliness and health problems. What are the causes for this and what are some solutions.

Some people believe that if older people get more social and physically active, they can lead healthy, happy lives, but most don't. In this essay we will try to identify the reasons for this and suggest some possible solutions to this problem.

To begin with, there may be several reasons behind this trend. First, many older people live alone. Their children migrated to the cities in search of better jobs. Consequently, they are alone most of the time. While it is still possible to go outside and talk to neighbors, many older adults prefer to stay within the confines of their home. This may be due to the aches and pains that plague everyone as they age. Unfortunately, when they don't move enough, their health deteriorates even more. There are also some older people who feel that they have completed all their responsibilities and have nothing left to do. They also tend to live in inactivity and solitude.

There can be some possible solutions to this problem. Governments and private organizations should offer jobs to older people. This benefits them as well as the organization as they can remain mentally and socially engaged while effectively utilizing their extensive experience and knowledge. Older people are experienced people. They should be able to use their knowledge and experience to their advantage. For instance, they may be involved in social work. In addition, older adults should engage more in hobbies that interest them. For example, gardening can keep a person energized and fit. Additionally, older adults can join local clubs with their peers and friends to help reduce loneliness.

In conclusion, older people lead sedentary and isolated lives, mainly due to age-related diseases that limit their movement. They can overcome these problems to a large extent by participating in community service and pursuing hobbies.
