The use of social media is replacing face-to-face interaction among many people in society. Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
It's true that more and more people around the world are using social networking sites to keep in touch with people they know. While there are some obvious positive aspects to this trend, I would say that overall they are outweighed by the negatives.
On the one hand, there are two main advantages of using social networks compared to face-to-face communication. First, in today's world, family members or friends may often be scattered across continents of the world due to work or school. Family reunification may be elusive and impossible to organize, and without the revolution and development of social media, people may be unable to contact relatives or close friends. Secondly, thanks to platforms such as WhatsApp or Facebook, it is now possible to stay in touch with more people, keep up to date with news, exchange pleasantries and photos. For example, from a business perspective, many companies have organized virtual meetings due to the recent infectious disease.
On the other hand, I believe that personal communication cannot be replaced. One reason for this is that social media discourages real interaction and discourages users from working on essential social skills. People use all their senses to interact with each other in a comprehensive way, such as touching and gestures. Another reason is that interactions that happen in person avoid some of the potential dangers of social media. For example, these include intelligence criminals such as hackers or online scammers whose goal is to steal personal information or money from online sites.
