Q. In some countries, people are having children at a later age in life. What are the reasons? Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

Establishing a family by having children has long been the subject of many debates, especially in recent decades. In this regard, many people, especially in contemporary societies, claim that having children later in life would be a wise decision. In my opinion, this trend seems to be quite widespread for several reasons and its advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. In the following essay, I will support this view with possible explanations and practical examples.

To commence with, it is widely believed that due to the financial difficulties of newlyweds, the decision to have and raise a child immediately after marriage is a risky task. Because this requires not only a permanent relationship, but also a standard level of wealth combined with a stable financial condition. Thus, both the wife and husband must pursue their professional goals in order to afford the expenses of necessities such as home and basic amenities. For example, recent statistics in Iran showed that the majority of couples, 60%, said that the main reason for living without children was due to the lack of proper working conditions and staggering housing prices. real estate market. Consequently, having offspring will become an unattainable dream in many underdeveloped countries.

On the other hand, delaying the birth of children has its negative aspects in married life. The most fundamental disadvantage of such a joint solution may be that there is a high likelihood that the couple will suffer from a lack of structure in their daily activities. This means that they will be deprived of family prospects, which are an important part of developing a relationship, both financially and emotionally. Accordingly, couples may lead a sedentary lifestyle due to lack of family responsibilities. In addition, recent medical research shows that pregnancy at an older age can bring both physical problems and mental disorders. In the UK, for instance, studies have shown that 25% of women who decide to get pregnant after 35 years are infected with serious diseases such as diabetes and blood pressure.

To conclude, although the birth of a child can be defined as an important joint decision requiring consideration of various aspects, despite the potential risks, it is clear that the idea of postponing the birth of a child until the economic situation is stable is more reasonable, since the fact that advances in technology, such as IVF, help older women become pregnant.
