Q. Today due to advanced medicine, people are living longer. Therefore, the number of elders is expected to exceed that of young people. Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

In this day and age, thanks to the blessing of modern medical science, people can live longer in this world than in the past. Consequently, the number of elderly people will be greater than the number of young people. This has a number of positive and negative aspects. However, I sincerely believe that the large number of elderly people is an even bigger blow, since the country has to spend more money on caring for them, and with a small workforce, it is almost impossible to complete. in a cutthroat global market.

One of the major disadvantages of having a huge number of elderly people is that the state government has to spend money on various facilities especially meant for them like building old age homes, providing special incentives for medical treatment etc but few. As a consequence, this country will face a lack of funds to invest in more pressing social issues, namely education, health, security and the like, which causes discontent among the population. To give an example: in South Africa, welfare benefits for the elderly exceed those for the unemployed, which leads to an increase in violence. Therefore, the higher the number of elderly people, the higher will be the government's investment in unproductive areas that generate many social problems.

Another crucial disadvantage of having a small number of young people is that the nation cannot compete in a highly competitive world with these human resources. In other words, if a country has a large number of teenagers, the economy can be stimulated by utilizing their latest knowledge, experience, skills, to name a few, leading the country to become a developed country. and an independent state. On the contrary, with a large number of unproductive older people, it is impossible to develop something new and compete with other countries. For example, China has become a leader among all other countries only thanks to its productive youth.

In conclusion, a large number of elderly people undoubtedly leads to numerous disadvantages. Therefore, in my opinion, the disadvantages, if any, are far outweighed by the disadvantages.
