Q. Some people say the fashion industry is bad for the environment, as it encourages consumers to buy new clothes all the time. Do you agree or disagree?
It's often claimed that the fashion industry is harmful to the environment because it encourages consumers to buy new clothes. I strongly disagree with this notion and believe that fashion is crucial for both society and the environment.
Firstly, I believe fashion gives people a sense of satisfaction that nothing else can guarantee. In other words, even if someone is happy with their current job and feels at ease in the workplace, sometimes the required dress code can reduce their productivity and efficiency. For example, street cleaners who work long shifts are always self-conscious about their appearance and want to look better than they do now, and if they were given better clothes than what they've worn their entire career, they would leave the streets sparkling clean.
Secondly, the materials used to make clothing can be recycled. In other words, if people decide to donate or discard their clothes in exchange for new ones, the government can collect these clothes, repurpose their materials, and even create new items from the discarded clothing. For example, in Italy, a significant amount of clothing was discarded. So, the government collected it and repurposed it into various products to reduce environmental impact. As a result, clothing waste was significantly reduced, improving environmental health.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that fashion is important for the environment and makes people happy and motivated.
