IELTS Exam, Writing Task 2, General Training, 21 January 2021, INDIA

Q. Some individuals think that managers alone should make decisions in the company, while others think that employees should be involved in the decision-making process too. Discuss both views and give your own opinion?

Many organizations today involve employees in the decision-making process. Some people argue that decisions should only be made by management, while others believe that employees should also be part of the decision-making process. Both points of view will be discussed in this essay before a conclusion is drawn.

The managers have extensive experience and wide knowledge. They are familiar with how business works. They are also aware of the strengths and weaknesses of their workers. This knowledge and experience enables them to make decisions that benefit the company, its stakeholders and employees. Moreover, when making important decisions, several confidential documents are taken into account. Safety can be an issue if all employees are involved.

On the other hand, employees have many reasons to participate in the decision-making process. They also want to be appreciated for their contributions. If management involves them in the decision-making process, they will be more confident in their role. This will encourage them to stay in the same organization longer. Research has shown that one way to reduce retirement rates is to involve employees in important decision-making. Wrong decisions made by management can negatively affect employees. If they are involved in the decision-making process, they will be able to make appropriate proposals. In addition, employees who work in a transparent environment tend to be better connected to their manager.

To sum up, there are many reasons for involving employees in the decision-making process. While an organization does not need to discuss all confidential information with them, they should at least be allowed to make decisions that affect them.
