Q. In many workplaces, online communication is now more popular than face-to-face meetings. Do the advantages of this direction outweigh the disadvantages?

The contemporary era is an era of modernization, online communication has become an integral part of many jobs. However, this direction has a number of disadvantages along with advantages. Subsequently, the perception of this modern trend is different for different people.

When we look at the positive aspects of online communication in the workplace, we discover many benefits. Firstly, employees save more time on actual job, rather than discussing their personal lives with colleagues over a morning cup. In addition, it helps to cope with the stress of personal meetings. For example, some people feel uncomfortable and are afraid to express their opinion to the management. However, if they are writing an email, they may take time to fully express their point of view. Thirdly, instant messaging is usually very fast. Therefore, if an employee needs some information from a colleague in another department, he/she can get the information online within a short time.

On the other hand, the fact that people are distancing themselves from each other can adversely affect mental health and job satisfaction. Clearly, in-person interaction facilitates healthy personality development and promotes social skills. For instance, in global companies like Amazon and Microsoft, workplaces are arranged in such a way where employees can interact with each other during the work process.

To conclude, there are many advantages to online and face-to-face communication. It is difficult to say that one is better than the other. Overall, I believe that people should understand their individual needs and strike a balance between both types of communication.
