Q. The chart below provides information on urban population growth in certain parts of the world, including projections for the future.

The vertical bar graph illustrate the proportion of urban population growth in Africa, Asia, Latin America/Caribbean, and worldwide from 1950 to 2000, and also provides projections for 2030.

In 1950, Latin America and the Caribbean had its maximum urban population, which accounted for 42% of the total population. In contrast, in Asia and Africa, much fewer people lived in cities - 14% and 12% of the total population, respectively. In 1950, just under a third of the world's population were city dwellers.

In 2000, in Africa and Asia, the urban population almost tripled. In both these areas, the urban population was approximately 38% of the total. In Latin America and the Caribbean, more than two thirds of the population lives in cities. However, in 2000, there were almost equal numbers of rural and urban populations worldwide.

It is predicted that by 2030, the urban population will continue to grow by 10-15% in all sectors. Nearly 80% of people in Latin America and the Caribbean are expected to live in cities, compared to an estimated 60% globally.

Overall, it can be seen that the urban population has grown in all these areas and is expected to grow in the future.
