Q. In many countries, plastic containers have become more common than ever and are used by many food and drink companies. Do you think the advantages outweighs the disadvantages?

Nowadays the use of plastic containers is increasing day by day all over the world. Moreover, organizations across the globe have been using plastic for storing and transporting their products. Although many are against this notion, I firmly opine that the merit of companies using plastic containers evidently outweighs the demerits.

To commence with, those who argue against it suggest that it creates environmental pollution. After use, these containers are discarded by consumers, which are subsequently eaten by stray and wild animals. Plastic also takes a long time to decompose, resulting in a pile of debris. However, the root cause of this problem is the consumers themselves. After consumption, consumers should be aware of the proper use of plastic. Companies are running a campaign to promote such awareness. For instance, the beverage companies have urged its customer to return their cans to shops, and eventually, the consumer will get some rewards. Consequently, companies are using other means to educate customers about the proper handling of plastic, which is a major cause of environmental pollution.

On the other hand, the usage of plastic containers is highly economical for beverages companies. In other words, plastic is lighter than other packaging materials. Therefore, it reduces the cost of the final product. Reduction in transportation cost is also feasible as these containers consume less space, which aids in transporting a larger number of final products in the domestic market, and also benefits the organization in increasing its export earnings. Furthermore,  plastic containers also help to deliver end products to the customer in various sizes and shapes. It is beneficial for the consumer to choose the material according to the packaging requirements.

To conclude, for large industries, plastic containers are very economical, although they are harmful to the environment, companies are trying to educate customers about the handling of these plastics. Thus, the advantages of the usage of plastics by companies clearly outweigh the drawbacks.
