Q. Too much emphasis is placed on going to university for an academic education. People should be encouraged to vocational training because there is a lack of qualified professionals such as plumbers or electricians. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In the last decade, education has become an integral part of human life. Unfortunately, the public outlook on education is more about academics rather than vocational training, while both hold equal importance in our lives. Personally, I agree that we should encourage people to choose vocational education for a reason.

Applying for a profession requires a certain educational qualification for some reason. Passing through years of academic education expands our theoretical and practical knowledge in the area of ​​interest to us. In addition, university classes encourage their students to do research and prove something in the scientific process, which is impossible without an academic background. To illustrate, anyone can put braces on someone's teeth, but only a certified dentist knows how to put braces in the correct position. Hence, people view academic education as a critical life stage.

Meanwhile, vocational training is becoming underestimated, although it is necessary to meet human needs. In my personal opinion professional classes should be valued more as we don't have to spend years getting certified and these classes only teach their students certain skills. Also, these skills will not be well developed without professional training, as it is not available in academic classes such as universities. For instance, cooking and dietetics classes teach how to cook, but a nutritionist is taught how to cook not delicious, but healthy food. Thus, for some reason, we also need to think more about getting a professional education.

To conclude, even if academic education seems to be more overrated, we have some important arguments in favor of choosing professional education. Both of them will give different results as professions that will help in our life needs.
