Q.
Newspapers have influenced people's ideas and opinions. What are the reasons for this? Is this a positive or a negative development?
Nowadays the mass media have an extremely strong influence on modern society around the world, especially on its opinions. However, the impact of this phenomenon is not precise, and discussions are becoming increasingly contentious. In my opinion, newspapers, as one of the most efficient tools of state structures, have a great influence on a person's worldview. This essay will explore the main reasons for this and illustrate the positive consequences.
As for the reasons for this influence, social media has been the most important tool of any government since the inception of the press. Using this field as a sphere of national interest, states still have the opportunity to provide the most appropriate position that will increase the loyalty of the audience. For instance, in Soviet times, propaganda was on the agenda as a means of controlling the minds of the population. Therefore, the effect of such a policy is still colossal and strongly affects every society.
However, given the pros and cons of this influence, it is difficult to assess the situation as a whole at the current moment. To illustrate, today information is provided not only by various paper publications, but the vast majority of media have their own websites, YouTube and Telegram channels, and so on. This leads to the existence of a constitutional right to freedom of speech that is significant for the modern world. As a result, each person has the opportunity to choose which sources he can trust.
