Q. Schools are no longer necessary because children can learn so much from the internet and be educated at home. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The internet has made the world small, even our classes have become online meetings. Some people feel that traditional schools are no longer needed as the Internet offers so many resources. They claim that home schooling is better. I strongly disagree with this point of view, I believe that children should have the right school environment. I will describe the reasons for my point of view in this essay.

First and foremost, educating children at home is not an easy task. Obviously, there are many distractions in the minds of young people at home. For example, with many young gaming console owners nowadays, putting the controllers away from them and studying them instead is a huge task. Secondly, not everyone is qualified to educate their children. They are either unaware of the way of teaching or are busy with their work. A clear example is, if both parents are working, they will find it difficult to check on their child's progress and spend time teaching.

On the other hand, the convenience associated with homeschooling and the false sense of security associated with having the child around all the time are some of the reasons parents consider this approach. Indeed, the child is safer when he/she is at home, and it is easier for parents to take an active part in learning than to send the child to school. Consequently, adolescents will lack the development of important social skills they need to be good citizens.

To conclude, while there are some advantages to teaching children at home using the Internet, there are many disadvantages to this approach. While people who support homeschooling cite convenience and safety as their main concerns, there are also counterarguments to this, such as children growing up without social skills, parents who are not qualified to teach, and household distractions. In my opinion, home education cannot be seen as a substitute for school.
