Q. An increasing number of people are choosing to have cosmetic surgery in order to improve their appearance. Why are more people choosing to have operation to change the way they look? Do you think this a positive or negative development?

Cosmetic surgeries have become quite popular in recent years as a huge number of people undergo these surgeries to improve their appearance. People who choose these surgeries are mainly because they want to look flawless and therefore I believe that this has obvious negative consequences for those who undergo these cosmetic surgeries.

To commence with, since the modeling industry is developing at a fast pace, cosmetic products have also become accessible to different people. As competition gets tougher and thinking is manipulated among people into thinking that external beauty is the main reason for growth in life, more people are likely to accept cosmetic surgery than those who do not care about their appearance. For example, there is an advertisement for a cream that claims that a fairer Skintone means more career opportunities, which is completely false and manipulates naive people. People are constantly being told that undergoing cosmetic surgery on themselves will lead to a better lifestyle and because of this, people are inclined towards cosmetic surgery.

However, even cosmetic surgery will lead to negative consequences. People who have changed themselves solely because they lack confidence will have fragile confidence after surgery as it is all tied to appearance and once their appearance is ruined again they will become depressed. Moreover, they will be more concerned about other people's opinions. which will force them to respect the other's point of view and constantly try to change themselves. For instance, a woman in the US underwent cosmetic surgery because she wanted to look like actress Angelina Jolie, but after several months she was unhappy with the operation and fell into clinical depression. Therefore, I believe that surgery will have more negative effects on a person's mind and body than positive effects.

In conclusion, people who sincerely try to improve themselves through cosmetic surgeries just to show that they are perfect end up falling into the trap of negative influences that gradually begin to deteriorate their own peace.
