Q. Some people believe that public museums and art galleries will not be needed because people can see historical objects and works of art by using a computer. Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

There are some people argue that public museums and art galleries are no longer needed as people can find historical artworks and artifacts on the Internet. Personally, I completely disagree with this statement because of the following arguments.

To commence with, museums and art galleries are not just exhibition spaces for historical artifacts and masterpiece paintings. As a cultural institution, the history of human development has traditionally been perceived as a place where the typical material and spiritual values belonging to the past of the region, community, and, more broadly, humanity are deposited. Therefore, when we mention it, the general public often imagines a place that is attractive from the outside and also has a number of interesting features, including unique sculptures, ancient architecture, and expensive art collections. In this regard, I believe that the experiences and emotions that arise from seeing things with one's own eyes are different and more meaningful than just looking at them or knowing them through a computer screen.

However, the disadvantages of visiting these places through a computer or virtual reality are significant. First of all, the cost of installing equipment for providing images or documents is very high. To take a fresh look at the museum, you need not only to look at its artifacts up close, but also to see them from afar. As a consequence, it is difficult to install cameras that can create 3D images. It is also important to note that not everyone has the opportunity to participate in these activities. In some developing nations, having a personal computer is already difficult, so using technologies such as virtual reality to visit museums or art galleries is unrealistic.

To conclude, I believe that due to the benefits that public museums and art galleries offer, they are unlikely to suffer from extinction in the future.
