Q. The graph below shows the fishing industry in a European country according to four indicators.
The given table chart illustrates the data on large industrial vessels and small fishing vessels in a European country. It is interesting to note that even though the number of workers on small fishing vessels far outnumber those on large industrial vessels, their annual catch for food is less than that of large industrial vessels.
The number of employees on large vessels is 500,000, which is much less than the 120,000,000 employees on smaller boats. The annual catch from the big ships is 29 million tones, where as that from small boats is 24 million tonnes. There is no catch for industrial process from the small boats, whereas it is 22 million tonnes from the big ships.
The annual wages of each small ships worker are meager (£200–3,000) compared to those on large ships (£25–350,000). The annual fuel consumption for each large vessel is 65,000 tons, where as that for each small vessel is 8,500 tonnes.
Overall, it can be seen that although small boats require a huge labor force to catch fewer fish for the food industry, they have lower financial costs and require less fuel.
