Q.  The graph below shows information about the total oil consumption of four major consumers from 2009 to 2030.

The line graph illustrates the information about the oil consumption of four different regions from 2009 until present, and the projected figures till 2030. Units are in millions of barrels per day.

 

In 2009, oil consumption in the United States was approximately 9 million barrels per day. That figure rose to about 10 million barrels per day in 2015, before starting to decline. The figure is predicted to continue falling to around 7.5 million barrels per day by 2030. Meanwhile, oil consumption in Western Europe and Japan peaked at about 4 million barrels per day in 2009 and has been declining since. The figure is projected to reach 2 million barrels by 2030.

Oil consumption in China and the Middle East in 2009 was around 2 million barrels per day. By 2030, China and the Middle East are projected to reach 3.5 and 3 million barrels per day respectively.

 

Overall, the USA has been the largest consumer of oil from 2009 to the present and is projected to remain the largest consumer through 2030.
